The University of Missouri is a public research university that was founded in 1839. At present, enrollment stands at over thirty thousand students per year. The University offers some two hundred and seventy undergraduate, graduate and professional degree courses. Also, the University of Missouri is one of only six public universities in the United States that have a school of medicine, veterinary medicine and law all located on one campus. The university has the second largest library collection in the entire state, and in the 2006/2007 academic year, its collection stood at some 3.1 million volumes and 8.1 million microforms. The University offers an impressive array of sports programs ranging from basketball and baseball to wrestling and lacrosse. The school's colors are black and gold. The Missouri Tigers (as they are known, officially) excel in a range of sports.
